Some songs fit together really nicely, and it’s hard to tell why. Here are four songs that fit together nicely.
Let’s Make Love And Listen To Death From Above – CSS, Spank Rock
I don’t know how I found this song, and that might be my favorite part of it. The song came out in 2006, CSS is a Brazilian band, and according to Wikipedia it stands for “Tired of Being Sexy.” One day it appeared in my liked songs & I haven’t looked back since. Just too cool. Weird little disjointed guitars over a great dancing four on the floor beat. Can’t get enough.
Psychic City (Classic Remix) – YACHT, Classic
I heard this song listening to a college radio station back in Miami, and something about it still influences my production. I love how independently all the parts are super simple, but together they make such a cool little jungle of textures. Also, something about the sonic texture almost makes it feel like it could have been recorded to a cassette in the best way possible. Lyrically, I have no idea what’s going on, and I love that.
Peace Blossom Boogy – Babe Rainbow
Babe Rainbow is doing some really cool psychedelic stuff. Everything is warm & saturated, it all feels careless in the best way possible. Wiggly guitars, falsetto background vocals, a super loud shaker, feels very 60’s. Makes me want to drive forever on the PCH and sleep on a beach.
Wassup (Uh Huh) – Yoni & Geti, WHY?, Serengeti
I understand none of the lyrics in this song. My friends and I have a few theories on it, but none were comfortable sharing. I love the breaths as a percussion instrument, and all the harmonies, and the fact that the big hook of the song is “I tomahawk your Seminole.” It feels like some indecipherable euphemism. Also why is the song by so many people? Who are these people? Keep it up.
